Description

I started my October Oregon coast trip in Medford, spent a day at Crater Lake and then took a couple of days in the Redwoods. I did a leisurely cruise up the Avenue of the Giants and took the opportunity to wander back off the road into the forest. The quiet was wonderful, surrounded by these magnificent trees with the call of the occasional bird the only interruption of the silence. I spotted this colorful scene on a fallen log. The little spotlight was perfectly placed.>=))>

Specific Feedback

This is an HDR image and while there is some noticeable focus fall off on the left side I still think the colors carry the scene. Your thoughts?

I like this, Bill. I’m not bothered by the focus fall off, it works fine for me. The different shapes, textures and colors makes this work. That little “spotlight” helps in the composition as well.

I like the colors and textures a lot, Bill. For my taste, the full HDR treatment feels a bit too much and I’d bring the highlights down a bit. I’d probably also crop this a bit tighter from the top and right to eliminate the bright areas in the upper right corner.

Fantastic find!! Wonderful colors and the DOF is fine with me – the falloff is very natural and keeps the eye on the subject. I agree about toning down the brightest area a little.

Bill, this is a very attractive (and quiet!) scene with it’s variety of colors and the spotlight. I agree that a slight crop top and right plus some burning of the brightest bits is likely to enhance this. The diagonals of the fallen leaves adds a pleasing touch of motion.

What a cool find! The colour combinations work very well, and the focus fall-off isn’t a negative at all. I agree about toning down the bright “spot” justa bit.
Something different and imaginative!
