Description

Lost Maples is a state park in central Texas. In part of the Sabinal River valley there is a stand of maple trees unique to this area. In the fall folks flock to the park but fall comes late to this part of the state and it was particularly late this year. Besides the native maples there are a few saplings that have been strategically planted in some of the meadows. This bright little fellow caught my eye immediately. I had some nice high sky light which brought out the colors nicely.>=))>

Bill, I like the colour palette here. The reds, yellows, greens and very light grass contrast remarkably well. A worthwhile image for sure, but not one of your masterpieces!

My passing glance quickly became a more deliberate study of everything going on in the image. There is color, shapes and even lines. The sharp foreground grasses serve are a nice inclusion.

“Elegance in simplicity” is what comes to mind. Great eye to see it, and masterfully captured!

Bill, you do have a full spectrum of colors here. I would suggest burning-in the grass as it’s brightness dominates the scene and maybe a slight overall brightening after that.

Personally, I really like the layers you have here and how the relatively bright grass pops against the darker background. Overall, all the colours feel harmonious and this image is a strong one in a quiet, understated way. Nicely seen and executed.

Definitely more than a passing glance. The maple tree pops so brilliantly from the background trees, which as @Tom_Nevesely pointed out are nicely layered. The FG grass is a bit too bright and this is one of those images where I think centering the tree may have worked better compositionally. This is yet another place I’m adding to my “must visit” list!

Hi Bill,
Definitely worth an image IMO. To really appreciate this you must take in the large version to enjoy the layers along with some amazing details. As others have suggested I would tone down those FG grasses just a little. I could also see the saturation of the reds and yellows boosted slightly, but that is just a personal preference. This is an understated scene you need to slow down with to savor.

What a beauty Bill! You have taken and processed the colors that I love. You broke one of the more followed rule in photography: the base dark and the light raising towards the top of the image. Also for this the photo is original for me and I like it very much. Yes, as already said the grass in the forground is a bit too bright also for me. Bravissimo!

While I don’t think is a wall hanger, I can see why you stopped to compose an image of this. I think the foreground grasses dominate the scene so I would tone those down quite a bit and make it more about the center tree. I might also consider cropping off the top to remove the red tree on the right side as it distracts and pulls the eye from the center tree but it also provides balance in the scene so I’m not sure that would work or not. Trying to come up with suggestions and I’m having a hard time.

Bill,Such a nice image Indeed what others say with to much focus on the foreground .You can try to take off most not all ,of it and tone it down. Remains a more balanced image.
