Misty woods in Peak District

A photo from a November trip to Peak District in the UK. This was my first photography outing for a few months. I think this was a bit clear in the result, by not paying too much attention to small details in the composition. I was generally not too happy with the separation in the composition, but still kind of liked the image. Then the next problem for me was not to process the file. I did multiple edits from very high key ones to a much more contrasty ones. I was never sure which I like most. This version looks like a happy medium to me.

Specific Feedback Requested

Composition and processing. I know I could have added a bit more separation between some trees/branches. I am not sure what I think about the empty space in the lower right part of the frame. Initially, I thought it is nice. Kind of a leading line towards the background. But with the position and the overall slope, sometimes the composition seem a bit unbalanced. For the processing, I was mostly not sure about the level of contrast I want. I did something like the opposite of a vignette at the top of the scene. The branch on the top was a very big distraction which I tackled by increasing the overall brightness, lifting the shadows significantly and reducing the constrast. I feel that worked well.

Technical Details

Now thats one wicked scene! This is an area that I plan to visit sometime in the future. I like the processing here. It’s fitting for the light and atmosphere that you had. Nice soft even light, with nice colors that pop. Just right! I like that. The composition…does feel unbalanced to me. The boulder on the left just has so much visual weight right now. A suggestion to get rid of some of the visual weight on the left is to maybe desaturate the greens on that left side on both boulders, and darken the trees and foliage on the right side of the frame.

Quick edit with the suggestions. Wish there was slightly more breathing room on the right for that tree closet to the edge, but I think the edits help with the overall balance of the image.
