I was walking in the woods early in the morning when I scared up a curvy of CA quail. Some took to the trees and this guy gave me a brief pose.

Nice catch Dave. Such a photogenic bird. Love seeing the patterns present throughout on this species. As for cropping I could see adding space on the left it doesn’t introduce too much distraction. Nice pose with a great view of the head/eye.

A nice frame for this quail, Dave. The bird looks good and the background isn’t distracting to me, though I could see trying to desaturate those greens just a bit-it’s a delicate balance to keep them from looking unnatural.
