Mount Temple Buttresses - Repost

Adjusted color and cloud texture

Skewed and Recropped

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This is another view of Mount Temple from the Valley of Ten Peaks, Moraine Lake Parking Lot. We were waiting for the shuttle to take us back to Lake Louise about an hour after sunrise. The mist was starting to dissipate from the mountains, leaving wonderful glimpses of the buttresses and ridgelines. It had snowed a few inches the day before giving everything a fresh white frosting.

Specific Feedback

I’d be interested in your aesthetic impressions as well as seeking guidance for crop and lighting and other technical aspects of this image. I feel like there is too much sky, but wanted to leave some room on top of the highest part of the mountain. I feel like the whites are pretty bright up on the very top, but I’m hoping they are not blown too far out and help to give the impression of a fresh new beginning to this amazing day. Your thoughts and suggestions are desired and welcomed.

Technical Details

Canon 5DMiii, iso 100, f11, 1/80 s, -1.3ev, 24-105 at 45 mm. Recropped and skewed to straighten trees.

Another spectacular image - this jumped out at me immediately. I am very jealous of all the beautiful places you go. The image did not strike me as having too much sky. I agree you want some room above the tallest peak, but I’m thinking leaving a little less might be okay? It is beautiful!

Thank you so much @elizabeth, I appreciate your encouraging comments.

Wow, really beautiful image!
A tiny bit less sky might be good, but this is great as is.
Love the mist, mountains, and evergreens.
I think it needs a tiny bit of CW rotation to straighten the trees.
Wonderful scene!

Thank you @Sandy. I skewed both sides at the top to straighten the trees, then recropped a bit off the top and the right side, and added a touch more on the bottom. Thank you for your discerning eye.

That’s a really lovely mountain image Ed the snow dusted pines look teriffic in that diagonal composition beneath the mountain peaks. The clouds at the top of the image particualarly on the right side of the image look a little odd like they have been “recovered” just a little bit too much and have adopted a slightly magenta hue where as the clouds just boiling off the mountain closer to the summit were probably denser and brighter and look much more natural to my eye.

Hi Ed,
You captured some wonderful atmospherics with the rising mist and the fresh snowfall is a real plus for the scene. The crop looks just fine to me as I think you have just the right amount of sky. My only suggestion would be to try and get a little detail in that one bright area of mist toward the right side of the frame. Another lovely image.

I tried to do a slight color correction and add recover some of the texture in the brightest spots of clouds. I’m not sure it quite got there. Thank you @Ian_Cameron and @Ed_Lowe for your suggestions on this one.
