Nest Building?

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This is more of an environment/activity shot, so I cropped to include more of the trees. I think the woodpecker is making a nest-at times he had half his body inside. I’ll keep an eye out and hope for some youngsters this spring. Very foggy day, taken shortly before the Pileated post from yesterday. I did dehaze both images-maybe not enough on the pileated.

Specific Feedback

Any thoughts appreciated.

Looks like a well used hole, Allan, so it might be spring cleaning. That’s a promising stand of snags to keep an eye on. This is quite well done and the fog makes foe a really mellow background.

This is a good one. It seems like a perfect place for a home. I wonder who their real estate agent is

I really like the image. I think you’ve done a really good job with both habitat and behavior.

I like the crop you chose, to show the environment. That’s a photogenic nest – definitely keep an eye on it!

Id like to suggest an even closer crop. Maybe its because I’m viewing on a fairly small mobile phone screen but I had to zoom quite deeply to see an eye and a beak. I’d suggest cropping in so that just V formed main trunk and the limb intersecting it, and of course the bird, are visible. Something like this maybe?
