Northern Hawk Owl

Image:

Description:

My second hawk owl sighting and was able to get some reasonable photos of this rare visitor to the Northern portions of the United States. Unfortunately, I could not get to my teleconverters as the hatchback door was frozen on my car. It was 10 degrees with light snow which provided an ample opportunity for high key photography.

Z9 600mm f4 (1/800 sec at f8.0, ISO 1000) Enhance Super Resolution in LR Classic, Topaz DeNoise AI, Microcontrast adjustment, Curves, Heavy crop for comp. The shot was taken from about 70 feet away in order to stay out of the owl’s fear circle.

I love that downward gaze toward you, Jim. Very cool. The comp works nicely. Well done.

I agree with David that the downward gaze adds a lot and the high key aspect works here. And, of course, any owl shot is great.

Hi Jim, great pose and gaze from the owl seeming to say, “just what are you doing down there?” Nice view of the under body patterns too. The high key look works well.
