The image was made from an observation tower about 100 feet up in the canopy. It was a windy day blowing the Spanish Moss sideways. Spanish Moss is not moss it is an air plant with very small flowers.

From my time in Spanish Moss country (you’re right - like Petite Syrah, it is neither!) I understand the appeal of trying for a shot like this, but I do wish for some directional light to bring up texture and isolate some shapes. We can’t just order that up, I know, but to me this seems like it’s fighting the light you had rather than working with it. By placing the light colored wood in the center of the frame, it makes it about that and not the moss to me. The moss is an excellent frame and the textures contrast well, but it’s a supporting character in this shot.
