Om

Image Description

I hope this qualifies for the Weekly Challenge.

We had been driving after photographing at another location when we noticed the wind sweeping in and out of the trees along the mountainside. It was cold, but incredibly beautiful and peaceful.

I titled this image OM for two reasons. The first is literal, the trees form a shape reminiscent of the OM symbol. The second is symbolic: OM represents love, eternity, purity, and peace. To me, this image embodies all of those qualities.

Pertinent Technical Details

I captured this image with a telephoto lens 100-400 The image is cropped to about half the size as I wanted to concentrate on the OM graphic formed by the trees. The wind/snow was moving fast and in and out of trees so this “graphic” did not last.*

You nailed your vision and the title Om is just right for this image. Maybe a little more contrast . You captured the snow and the wind !!!

Yes, I think a bit more contrast would benefit this image. Thank you!

Nice, dramatic image, Martha. Your timing was perfect!

If you decide to adjust the image, concentrate on the darks, but don’t go too heavy. The whites and midtones look spot-on. One reason this works so well is the airy mood. Aim to preserve that.

Very nice, @Martha_Montiel. I like the airy quality as well. I’m not sure what photo processing shoftware you use, but in lightroom, I think the texture slider would bring out the symbol without darkening the overall tonal effect.

Great capture.

Excellent image, Martha. I too like the airy feel of this image. I’m not sure it needs any adjustment, but it certainly would be fun to play with.

Martha,

I particularly like the dusting of snow on the trees. The mixing of the fog in the trees give it a mystical feel to the image. Nicely seen and captured.

Martha: I love encountering challenging fleeting conditions like this that will never be repeated and leave an indelible image in the mind as well as the sensor. Beautiful scene superbly captured and rendered. >=))>
