This is an image that I took last August along the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. There was a lot of atmospheric haze due to high humidity, warm temperatures and afternoon storms. I was treated to some spectacular light as a result of storms that cleared at sunset. This image features some more subdued light at sunset after a clearing storm.
The atmospheric haze diffused the mountains and left only a subtle impression of the distant ridges. This gives the image more of an abstract feel as the distant ridges almost fade into the sky.

RAW processing in Lightroom. Adjustments to lights, midtones and shadows using luminosity masks in photoshop. I targeted the midtones separately for the sky and mountains.
Yes, wonderful pastels and very painterly, Brian. I like that the haze is made up of soft blue tones that yield to the warmer colors of the sky. Awesome image and very well presented.
A great capture Brian. I have tried similar shots many times (layers of hills/mountains fading into the misty background), but they have never worked as well as this. You have processed the foreground to background well.
I do however find the sky slightly too saturated, it may be my monitor but the lower layer seems pretty strong.
Overall though an impressive image
