Painting

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

It was early morning in one of the main natural reserves of the Netherlands, known as the Biesbosch. It covers the confluence of a few rivers and is thus always a wet area. I was enjoying the scenery from an open observation hut, when this grey heron moved into sight.

Specific Feedback

I framed the heron in a corner, because I thought the different shades of green in the bushes were a second eye catcher in this picture. When I rediscovered the picture on my computer a few days later, it reminded me of landscape paintings of times gone by, hence the title.

I certainly get the feeling of a painting out of this image, Xavier, though I think if I were a painter, I wouldn’t have used the blue-green tones in the upper center as they’re enough of an eye magnet that they tend to hold my attention rather than letting it wander around the image. I love the framing with the heron in the corner. I also like the way the light is falling on the vegetation in this image.

Hi Xavier, I like your original vision for this image as the varying shades of green provide additional points of interest for me. Well composed image - I like the placement of the bird in that pocket and how he is looking into the majority of the photo. Well seen and taken.

Thank you for your comments.
