This view called me to stop on a time sensitive hike on a trail in the Kootnanys of British Columbia. The trees sticking up have caused me many looks as I asked myself if they were distractions. For now, I think they arch toward the reflected tree on the island which a main part of the image.
Is there too much clutter in this image or is it a keeper?

Hi Larry,
What a great view! The kootenay’s are on my list this summer if the parks reopen.
I personally would have wadded into the lake to simplify the composition and emphasise the tree island and the mountain slopes in the background.
When you were processing did you boost the shadows a lot? Some of the shadows seem bright to me. Particularly the wood on the ground in the foreground.
Nathan, Thanks for your reply. Wading could have been fun, but we were in a rush to catch a ferry. Your idea is a good one though. The view from the water would have simplified the image a lot. I opened some of the shadows in the trees on the right. That’s it. I appreciate your ideas here, although I know we’ll never get back there.
Larry, i agree with you that there is a relationship between the arching tree and the island. It’s not the trees sticking up that are distracting to me, but rather the bright fallen wood along the bottom edge, those bright tones pull my eye away from the center of the image. I would at a minimum, burn them down, and/or do a more severe crop, if your goal is to emphasize the island/tree relationship.
Ed, You are absolutely right. I looked at this image so many times and did not see this crop. I appreciate your insight and edit. I am making the crop immediately. Thanks so much. Larry
