Peewee Takes Off

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Our hummingbirds have departed for warmer spots to spend the Winter and was going through some of this Summer’s natural light hummingbird shots. I thought this one was very unique and it reveals that hummingbirds put a lot of effort into take offs.

Specific Feedback

This one is about as much as I would like to crop. This stick was their favorite perch that was used between foraging bouts at nearby flowers. What do you think about the crop?

Hi Jim, nice takeoff pose you captured here with the wings up and a good look at the eye. We can even see intricate detail in the raised wing - quite cool. I like the crop with the end of the branch included and still room for the bird to take off to the right. Pleasing BG too.

Hi Jim
A very cool pre-take off. I also think the framing works, the head turn is a plus.
Peter

Great catch, Jim. I love the forward leaning pose and the raised wings. It has a lot of “potential” energy. Detail is excellent and the perch works well. The loose composition works very well with all the energy.

Thank you @Allen_Sparks , @Dennis_Plank , and @peter for your comments and critiques. It was a good fall for hummingbird photography and the results achieved with natural light might encourage me to try again next summer…Jim
