I captured this pelican landing over at Point Lobos State Reserve recently. It was one of hundreds at, or near a rookery. I went thru some “film”!
Specific Feedback Requested
This is a portrait and I cropped it a little tight. I didn’t have too much real estate to play with. Does it still work?

Nice landing pose, Dave. You might try adding a bit to the bottom and left using content aware fill or crop, but it works pretty well as-is.
I was not aware of content aware fill in photoshop. I just took your advice and here’s what I made. Thanks so much for the advice. I will be adding that to my photo editing toolbox.
Excellent capture of this landing Pelican, Dave! The color and detail are both great. As for the crop, I think it’s just fine the way it was. The only thing I would suggest is sharpening the image after you downsize and before you publish it. I did a quick sharpening application to show you the difference (be sure and look at the large version & keep in mind that I’m saving a jpg to a jpg which always hurts the image):
Thanks. I have not thought to do that. I will try it.
