Peregrine hitching a ride

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Female Peregrine Falcon riding on Osprey to keep it away from her nest. They usually don’t harm the Osprey but just give it a stern warning. The whole event last only seconds so I had to be focused on the Peregrine before it got to the Osprey.

This is very cool, Larry. Neat catch of behavior that seems to apply to lots of species combinations, but I’ve never seen this combination photographed. Nice detail in both birds and it’s interesting to see where the Peregrine decided to attack. Just curiosity, but did it dislodge any feathers from the Osprey?

Thanks, I did not notice any feathers missing. I have seen them chase and land on Pelicans & Seagulls also.

Really nice behavioral capture Larry. Great to see this interaction with the peregrine carefully choosing its contact point with the osprey. Composition and subject placement look good to me.

I’ve never seen or heard of this behaviour! Great catch!
Wish they were facing the camera, of course, but this is still a very cool image
