Sandy, this is a beautiful scene and composition. When I first saw it, I thought it was from the Little River in the Smoky Mountains. I took the liberty to download the image and made a few adjustments to my taste - you can disregard them if you like. First, I cropped off the bright sky at the top - it was too bright and distracted me. Secondly, the overall image is a bit bright, so I took down the exposure just a bit and added some contrast. Third, I feel the image is a bit warm, so I cooled it down just a bit. Lastly, I added a vignette to emphasize the creek and darkened the surrounding forest.

I really like these types of scenes, and think you did a wonderful job capturing it.

Hi Sandy,
I wish I could help you with the location as it is quite beautiful. The fall colors are lovely and compliment the greens in the image rather nicely as well as the flowing water. My only suggestion would be to crop out the bright section of sky as it does catch my eye. Wonderful scene!

Thankyou @Keith_Lisk and @Ed_Lowe for the kind suggesions.
I’m not sure, though - I think the white sky balances the white of the water, and the bit of mist on the trees adds another dimension I’d hesitate to lose. I’ll sure think about it, though!

Wow. Beautiful Falls colors here Sandy. I think you should try to burn back the sky a bit just to reduce the eye pull, not necessarily crop it out. I do like the vignette in @Keith_Lisk’s version too. Sorry I can’t h elp with the site location.

Sandy, the bright glow of your post is quite striking. The depth of the scene, with the stream as a lead, is excellent also. The overcast sky is something that I remember well from New England fall, as it lets the colors saturate, but creates challenges for photographers. While Keith’s crop and it’s reduced luminosity have merit, I think you handled the sky well and it adds a bit to the story. I do think a touch more burning-in would be good.

Sandy, A very peaceful image and I think the sky inclusion does give the viewer a felling of place and time . If there is anything that I might not prefer to see , is the two trees on the right side. That said, they do help too frame the stream.

@Keith_Lisk
Hey, I’ve been thinking more about the “where” and I think this WAS from a fall Smokies / Cade’s Cove trip. Thanks!

Ha! I thought so! I know exactly where this was taken - up Tremont Road near the end. I’ve been there so many times I recognize the boulders in the river.

@Keith_Lisk Thank you! sounds familiar now -
