Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I shot some more at the backyard setup today trying out my new lens (Canon 200-800mm). A FOS Pine Warbler showed up to my surprise. Also got more shots of a Cardinal and Titmouse. Attracted by sunflower seeds and peanuts.

Specific Feedback

Any thoughts on composition on these? The BG is the hill in my backyard a few fallen leaves.

The rock perch has pebbles embedded in it (not seeds or peanut butter). Makes me think it may really be a piece of discarded concrete. I placed it in the setup because of the lichen on it. I might get rid of the pebbles at some point but for now I am showing the “rock” as is.

So they have played “musical chairs” !
The little yellow warbler is a nice newcomer, and the titmouse and cardinal are still excellent. With the cardinal, you might consider taming the BG a bit.

Hi Allen
So far the Canon 200-800mm looks good. These three photographs prove the back yard can be just as exciting as the great outdoors.
Nice work.

The lens looks tack sharp, Allen. Nice poses on all three and pretty decent depth of field. The compositions work for me. Just out of curiosity have you investigate how well that lens works with a teleconverter yet?

Wow, tack-sharp! I’m hoping Sony takes the challenge and comes out with a 200-800 too.

Hi Dennis, I haven’t used a teleconverter. I think effective 1280mm reach (35mm equivalent) with the R7 will be all I need. Next test will be how it does with birds in flight.
Thank you for the comment.

Wow, another great set of backyard birds Allen. That lens seems to do a great job with clarity and detail. I just bought an R6 to go with my R5 and I’m still trying to figure out how it works and what it will do.
