Pink Ipe Reflections

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

The pink Ipe tree blooms in Brazil’s Pantanal for 7-10 days a year, and we were very fortunate to find it just starting to bloom. This is a reflection of the spectacular tree taken from a moving small boat in the Cuiaba River

Hi Sandy, beautiful blossoming tree and water reflection image! Sounds like you were quite fortunate to time your visit. Nice work on the overall composition. The tonality and colors look natural for the scene. The image does not quite hit the mark from an emotional impact but that’s quite ok. The back story helps add interest given the brief period the tree blooms.

Gorgeous reflection nicely framed! I’ll bet the tree was spectacular – do we get to see it too?

Sure, I’ll post it in Flora in a couple of days.

@Diane_Miller
Diane, I decided to post it here, cuz I don’t think it’s a strong enough image for flora. It was quite smoky on several days, and this isn’t the clearest image. The tree on the left has started to fade after 5-6 days. They last only 10 days or so, once a year.

I like that the one tree is fading – it really emphasizes the fresher one and lets the two interesting shapes show. There is some lovely subtle light on the trees. It would lose the bit of reflection but I think you could crop a lot from the bottom to get rid of the closer water plants, and tweak out a bit more contrast on the trees. Looks like a lovely place!
