A pair of young bison face off and practice dueling. They presumably need to get their reps in for more important tussles later in life. This was shot out the car window, and I almost had too much lens, but thankfully the action was benign enough so they weren’t bouncing out of the frame too much. I figured with a snow-covered background (this was in October in Yellowstone, but we had a few storms coming in already) and those big bright eyes, this would work well as a black and white.

I love this close-up! I feel like I can hear their breath and thump of the horn on the head! You can really see the fur detail and it looks so much like a fine art piece! It’s beautiful!
My initial reaction was “Ouch!”, and I was relieved to read the action was benign. The beautiful texture of their coats and the bg make this perfect for B and W. Best of all for me is the focused eye of the bison on the right.
