The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This is an image of old-growth Hemlocks found within the Porcupine Mountains in Michigan’s western Upper Peninsula. I love how this group of trees rose from the river below and the late morning ambient light that softly broke through the scene. To me, this image showcases the old-growth of the area, and the chaotic beauty of untouched woodland.

Specific Feedback

I would love feedback on the colors of this image. I tried to separate them as much as possible without losing the feeling of what I saw in the field. In addition some additional comments on contrast would be helpful. I feel as though this scene has good contrast and played around with it before coming to a final decision. Of course if there’s anythjing else worth pointing out, feel free to do so.

Technical Details

32.1 MM focal length, f/11, 3.5 second shutter speed.

Nice image you have here Josh, the contrast works really good between the light background and the shaded backlit trees. You should try doing a monochrome of this image if you haven’t already, after just increase contrast slightly . I photograph an ancient rain forest near my home and found myself doing both color and monochrome on many of my forest images. Nice job.

I like how the fog provides a sense of depth to the scene. I guess that’s why you titled it that way. The eye is drawn into the woods between the two main center trees. I think the composition is good. I think the color is good. You could give this a cyan cast because fog sometimes has that cold sense about it. Just experiment with that. A really minor nit is that brownish area about 2/3 of the way up of the leftmost tree’s right side.
