Taken on my first safari in the Madikwe Game Reserve, an area rich with elephants. This one calmly approached the jeep, giving me just enough space to capture a full-frame, uncropped portrait at 140mm.

This is a beautiful portrait of the Elephant nice and sharp. I like it but would like to see a little more space in front and the top which can be added in post. I know the Elephant does not move but it feels a little tide at least for me.
Stephen, the wrinkles in the elephant’s skin are excellent. While you’ve filled the frame with this view, I too think a bit more space all around would be good. Since it looks like you were at minimum zoom, I’m guessing that it would have been challenging, to remove the Teleconverter to get more space, unless this elephant was standing still for a while.
Thank you @Mark_Seaver and @natalya for your feedback. Yes, more space would be nice but it’s what I was able to get given the circumstances - lens combo and moving elephant as Mark states. No time to change lens. On safari I did not have multiple camera body / lens setups.
When I started down the path of selecting thsi photograph to edit, I too had some concerns about the spacing. But my thought looking at the picture was the full side profile of the elephant and the sharpness of the wrinkles that was the attraction to go down the post prcessing rabbit hole.
Hi Stephen, I love wildlife images taken in bnw so that we concentrate on the texture and shape and patterns in the image. I more thrown off by the horizon on the background. The ground appears flat and yet the perspective shows a steep climb. Is this intentional? I agree with others that you need more space around the top of the elephant.
