Protected waterfall

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This was taken in the seven falls park in colorado springs. In order to shoot the waterfall throughout (and not from below or above) you need to find a way to stop on the narrow stairs that have room for only one person in each direction. So I didn’t dare put down my tripod and just tried to get quick shots with my camera. It was frustrating that people kept coming behind and in front of me and I couldn’t spend time taking the pictures I wanted. It was mesmerizing to see the waterfall in between the pieces of ice and in between the brown rocks. I had to play with the setting to get the water as smooth as I wanted even though I had no tripod.

Specific Feedback

Any and all. One specific question I had is whether it makes sense to darken the part of the left rock that is bright because of the water flowing on it? When I tried to darken it, it didn’t look right so I am not sure.

Technical Details

Sony a7c, tamaron 70-300, iso 50, f/8, 1/13 seconds

Tamar: I’ve driven by Seven Falls a number of times but never stopped. I like what you’ve extracted here and I especially like the lingering ice. Good choice of SS to render the water this way. Nicely seen and very nicely captured in trying circumstances. >=))>

Thank you! highly recommend going there in spite of the frustration with being able to shoot on the stairs.

Tamar, I like the mix of smooth water, ice and colorful rocks. It’s nicely sharp for a 1/13 s shutter.

This is really beautiful with the ice, and a great result for no tripod
