Took this at Seven Island Birding Park in Tennessee. A Prothonotary warbler. Not the best light and branches in the way, but I love the brilliant yellow and a nice pose with the grub helps.
The name a these guys is a mouthful but interesting etymology

A beautiful bird, one I hope to photograph someday. Nice pose and the grub is bonus. You piqued my curiosity about the name. My Webster’s app defines “prothonotary” as a chief clerk in a court of law. Any idea how this naming came about?
Nice behavior/environmental shot. The timing was good with the positioning. You could have a go with some noise reduction and lowering the blue value of the branches. Since you couldn’t do anything about them IRL, making them less intrusive in post can improve this quite a bit. Super little bird and I’m glad you caught him.
According to Wikipedia: The genus name is from [Late Latin] protonotarius , meaning “prothonotary”, a notary attached to the Byzantine court who wore golden-yellow robes. The specific citrea is from Latin citreus meaning the colour “citrine”. It was once known as the golden swamp warbler.
A very nice environmental capture of a beautiful bird. The blue branches just don’t work for me and are so easy to fix with a global desaturation of blue and cyan. I left just a trace to be consistent with the shady setting. Would be nice to darken the branches but easier to do on the raw file.
