Puma on the Move

I was going to post a nice shot featuring birds and blurred water, but I see we’ve got both of those subjects being shared already, so here’s a different subject.

This was taken during the final day of exploration on my Patagonia tour earlier this year. We followed this young female puma for a few hours as she pursued various prey. We watched her stalk waterfowl, rheas and guanacos. Hunting is difficult enough for a cat in the relative open spaces of the Patagonian steppe, but younger cats also make plenty of mistakes, so none of the hunts were successful while we watched. Here, she’s on the move in search of a new target.

Beautiful image. The panning works extremely well, with the puma in focus and the background providing the motion. Excellent!

This is very effective, Max, to catch this cat on the move. The comp is wonderful and colors also.

Max, a fine job of panning, with the cat reasonably sharp and the strongly blurred background. The high key sense works well.
