Water is drained from the local reservoir in the winter leaving mostly mud and small puddles. When it freezes, the mud and puddles freeze and form intricate patterns.
You might consider lowering the brightness of the white area in the upper left a hair, so as to bring out a little more detail. I also think cropping some of that area out might be a good idea. I may be wrong in both regards.
Wonderful abstract photo. I agree with @Don_Peters about pulling more detail out of the whites. Perhaps a boost in contrast through a lights mask might do the trick. But I like frame as you have it, I do not see the need for a crop.
Chris, I am attracted to intimate landscapes like this that are abstracts as well. You have done an excellent job of seeing the intricacies that nature reveals to us. The three white areas frame the image well. Regarding the whites, I’m always a fan of capturing detail - the image works well for me as is. To quote Jack Kerouac in his introduction to Robert Frank’s The Americans, “You got eyes.”
Well, I have to say, you have found some very attractive and interesting mud! Seriously, this is very cool!! I love the feathery shapes surrounding the bubbly ones. I could see a little more detail in the larger light area in the UL but that’s my only suggestion! Well seen and presented!
What a cool image, I like it very much. The sweeping patterns of the ice combined with the leaves point patterns is just great as well as the somewhat subdued color palette. One idea could be to flip the image horizobtally to get a feeling of the leaves to flow into the ice from the (then) ULC. I would have tried to tone down a tad the whitest parts.
Very cool, Chris! The colors are very nice - those golden sand grains are lovely. My only suggestion would be to darken the roundish light area in the ULC to more closely match the luminosity of the area on the mid-right of the frame.
I love the colors and shapes of this picture. There is so much to look and and investigate. The combination of the clean curvy lines and the more dense color small shapes really balance each other out veyr nicely. I like how each corner is pushing your eye to the center - each in a slighly different way.
Chris, I’m sure you had a lot of choices of what to include and not include within the frame. This is a wonderful composition! I like how the broad white swirls frame the intense bubble-like center. Really very beautiful. Congratulations!
