We’ve had a rather long cold stretch here lately, which is somewhat unusual. Finding this frozen mud puddle was an unexpected treat on an outing where we were expecting to photograph the high water conditions along the Sacramento River. The high water was interesting, but the frozen mud puddles were better.

Any comments welcome. The raw image was quite flat, so I increased the contrast a lot (via expanding the histogram, not moving the contrast slider).

Processed in ACR and PS. Color graded in PS using the TK9 panel (lights warmed, midtones and darks cooled).
Wonderful!! I love the silver monotone and the pattern of light reflections. The other pattern, of the ice expansion, is fascinating. The lack of scale make it even more interesting. Well seen and processed!
There has been some lovely frozen mud here lately!
The patterns and subtle texture is amazing, not to mention the slivery treatment in your processing. This would make a wonderful large print for a wall.
I love this shot, Bonnie! Aren’t frozen mud puddles great? Wonderful lines and textures, nicely highlighted by the silvery sidelight. I’m so glad you found this.
