Description

Brazilian Pygmy Owl, Pantanal, Brazil
I didn’t see this little guy, in plain sight but very (very) dark, until our Guide pointed him out, about 15 feet off the path to the dining tent, at eye level.
Another image saved by DxO PureRaw, although there is still some noise in the BG

Wow! I didn’t know the iso went that high, Sandy. I thought 12,800 was the top on the A1-not that I want to go higher. I don’t see any noticeable noise in the background. Sometimes if I still end up with more background noise than I like, I’ll use the NeatImage noise reduction plugin for PS when I move the image there and just run it on Auto. It does a good job of adding a final touch, if needed.

I like the composition, though I might get rid of that little piece of orangish lichen, as it does draw my eye.

Nice catch Sandy, what a cute owl and you caught a great pose. I like the composition with the bird sitting on that big cutoff branch. I don’t see any BG noise.

This little guy is adorable Sandy. Nice job getting great colors and good detail in those conditions. I’m not seeing much noise with the processing you’ve done and it indeed must have saved a really nice image here.

Very interesting catch and a wonderful save for what must have been totally dark.
