Description
Eastern Screech Owl
Somewhere in Florida last spring
We heard this fellow before we saw him, and were surprised he was out before dusk. There was a cooper’s hanging around, and I think this little one was very wary.
The first time I saw screechies, I was also surprised at how small they are - 6-8 inches.

That’s one wild hairdo and the pose makes it look smaller than it is, which in turn, makes that eye look enormous (which creates a super cuteness factor). Very nicely done, Sandy.
What an impossibly cool looking owl. Love the pose, and environment. Seeing owls in the daytime is way high on my list. We occasionally hear a western screech owl here at night but NEVER see one in the daytime. I’m hoping that if I do, I can grab shot like this to be proud of.
@Karl_Zuzarte
Hi, karl - I agree that the BG could benefit from darkening, but we’re away for a couple weeks from my main PC and I have only the laptop. I’ll try, but it may not be decent enough to re-post.
What is MNEC? just curious…
