Now You See Me, Now You Don't

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I had an opportunity, along with a number of other photographers, to photograph a number of birds at the Bird Rescue Center of Sonama County. I took many photos of this Western Screech Owl but liked this one after the handler moved her in front of a tree, and she sort of blends into the background.

Specific Feedback

These owls are pretty small, and the crop is pretty tight. I specifically left the gloved hand in the photo, but I wonder if the crop is too tight? In retrospect, the photo might have also worked better if I positioned myself a little to my left, so more of the owl is positioned in more of the tree.

I would look at slightly darkening the BG to cause the subject to pop a little bit more. Just a thought.

I like this, Richard. Owls tend to be pretty cryptically patterned. I suspect mostly to keep them less conspicuous during the day so they don’t get mobbed by songbirds as much.

Note: Captive birds, including those only temporarily in rehab are supposed to be posted in the Everything Else category, so I’ll move this post to that forum for you.

Thanks , Dennis!

Thanks Dave!
