The Kids

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Here’s a pose I got of a couple of gray squirrel siblings at the bird box hole they are living in. I installed this box in hopes of screech owls liking it. Oh well, these squirrels are fun to watch.

Specific Feedback

I settled on the tight crop to really hone in on the subjects. The bird box they’re in is kinda boring. Did I go too far?

Very cool, Dave. I like their poses. This looks a little dark to my eye. You might look at raising the darker tones a bit.

I neglected to mention that I got this at first light, before sunrise. I’ve lightened it up some already. I will look at lightening it up some more. Thanks for your thoughts.

Very nice! Wonderful lighting and an interesting house for them. Not too tight for my tastes.

These guys look like a lot for fun to shoot than a stodgy old owl.

Ha! It’s a supply and demand thing. I see gray squirrels here all the time but, other than occasionally hearing one at night, I NEVER get to see one. I’ve read that it’s possible to see a screech owl in the daylight. Oh well, I’m not in charge…
