Critique Style Requested: Standard
The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
This is a view of Quadrant Peak across snow covered Swan Lake Flats that began with only hints of color. I posterized it to four tones, then I placed a view into one of the Yellowstone hot springs over top. The color change in the hot springs approximates a fall colors landscape.
Specific Feedback
This is an oldie (2013) that I ran across recently and realized that I still like it as an alternate view of a familiar place.
Technical Details
Both photos were full frame taken with a 5D3 and the 70-200 zoom.

Very interesting combination, Mark. I haven’t played with posterization so I didn’t know you could select the number of colors-that does create some interesting possibilities. It certainly had a neat effect on this image. I was wondering when I looked at it if the landscape layer were in B&W. I do like the results.
I love the colors and the ambiguity! It certainly caught my eye.
Mark,
This is very cool and quite clever in terms of combining different images to attain this effect.
It’s hard to offer any suggestions as I’m sure there were countless options and directions you could take this. For sure, your end result is quite captivating and engaging. The only suggestion or point of critique might be I’m not sure of the “dual” bands of golden mosaics at the bottom. Somewhat redundant - but then on the flip side the two layers or bands work well as a base to the upper landscape. Not sure I can offer any suggestions for improvement. This is quite fascinating.
