I have photographed this island in different seasons but the birches stand out in a dramatic way reaching for the sky only in the winter. I The lines of the trees are what capture my attention.

Is this a composite: No
I like the starkness of the trees but it’s the black sky that makes this image. In that sense it’s really not much different than Moonrise Over Hernandez. In fact, if you replace the white trees with white crosses you have Adams famous image. The presence of those dark blacks creates a strong mood.
