Description

Saw this male woodpecker in my backyard recently. He would not come to the set up but did come to one of the nearby trees. He even stuck his tongue out for me.

Allen, great catch. I like the pose and framing. The background looks great too. Nice little bit of tongue hanging out too.

Excellent, Allen. Great pose and the angle even manages to show the “red” belly. The tongue is a nice bonus.

Hi Allen - Great catch of this fellow! Sweet detail, pose, and interesting tree. The bit of tongue is icing on the cake.
Well-done!

I like the clean, contrasting background and the nice texture in the tree. Good pose and detail in the woodpecker.

Very nice colors and details. The soft lighting is a big plus for getting all the detail in the contrasty back of the woodpecker. The tongue is pretty cool to see unless you are a woodboring beetle larva. Well done and Happy Thanksgiving…Jim

Really nice capture. I’ve shot these in Florida and Maine but, alas, we don’t have them here in CA where I live. Just a heads up: there’s a very well done “Nature” episode on PBS on woodpeckers (new, I think) and these guys are in it, among others. Worth seeking out.
