Red Tail take off

D500, 500mm (300 w/ 1.7), f4.8, 1/3200, iso400
Taken yesterday in local refuge.
I took out a branch in front of the bird if you can notice…

Dan,

You did an awesome job nailing this take-off. The branch adds context to your image and the BG is nice and soft. The dark phase red-tail is not commonly seen by us in the East. No nits from me. Excellent photo…Jim

Excellent timing, Dan. When I’m waiting for them to take off, my arms usually get tired and I lower the camera for a second just as they go! Detail is superb and it looks like you hit the blue sky hole in the rain.

The decisive moment! Perfect timing for the perch to contribute a leading line, wonderful pose, detail and BG.

A lovely take off pose. And you were in a good spot for the lighting. Well done.

Being in the right place at the right time! Wonderful wing and body position. Good diagonals. Detail is superb. While the perch does tell a story, it also grabs my eyes a bit and maybe cloning it away would be helpful. Certainly worth a look.

Very nice! The image conveys power and action. For me, this moment is just as action-filled and dramatic as the moment of attack on prey.
