Really nice capture David; light and composition are right on. Envy the sharpness of your lens too. This guy reminds me of our local belted kingfishers, but they hardly sit still for more than 2 seconds, ha ha.
Wonderful capture of a belted kingfisher. Comp, sharpness, and BG are perfect. Belted kingfishers overwinter in Costa Rica so my hunch on the ID seems to going in the right direction. Amazon kingfishers are more green and the markings on the underparts are very different from the posted image. An excellent shot indeed!
I thought it was a belted kingfisher but it does look similar to the Amazon kingfisher in my Costa Rica bird guide. Thanks for the ID.
