Description

The light was anyways low, and the darker area of the lake gave out some nice reflections in the still water

This is a good shot with a great reflection Balan. These white birds in direct light can often blow the highlights but you have managed to keep them pretty well.
I like the water shimmer on the right but the left seems slightly unbalanced with what almost seems to be a cut-off line on the left side of the birds body. I suspect that it’s the strong directional light though.

There are some really nice things about this image. It’s a little subtle. I like the reflections of the bird. But I agree with Ryan, but there’s just something that seems to be a little off balance. I’m not sure how I would change it. Perhaps increase the water reflection to become a little more visible on the right side.

I see what Ryan is talking about on the left side. I think this image could stand cropping from the top, bottom and left unless your goal was to include a feeling of vastness in the background. However, completely empty space doesn’t really convey that feeling to me.

Hey Balan, good to see you here again! Great shot of this heron, I love how his neck goes all over the place in the reflection :upside_down_face: Well controlled exposure.
Merry Christmas! Ingrid.

Very lovely, but something feels off to me. The detail on the water on the right my be the way it was but it feels like it might have been brushed on. I wonder if there is a bit more detail in the rest of the BG – or maybe just slightly lower contrast.

I know the bird’s reflection might be distorted but I would be interested in a CW rotation to put the reflection of the bird’s head exactly below the actual head. That might make the detail on the water on the right feel better. Had to try it:
