Image Description

A single sea otter (Enhydra lutris) rests on the surface of Resurrection Bay, Alaska. Otters assume this position because their nose, eyes and soles of their feet are the only body parts not covered with the luxurious fur that keeps them warm. Captured from the deck of a 45-foot tour boat.

Technical Details

Canon EOS 5D; Canon EF200-400mm + 1.4x @ 560mm; f/20 @ 1/250 sec, ISO 800; handheld. Vibrations from the boat engine would be transferred up the legs of a tripod rendering any image(s) blurry.
