Description
A dozen Sandhill Cranes returning on a December evening to the Jasper-Pulaski Fish & Wildlife Area in Indiana. Thousands come in around sunset from all directions to dance and socialize before settling down for the night.
I had many cameo options, chose this grouping because of the variety of wing positions and the framing from the clouds below and contrail above.

Bob, a really nice silhouette of these wonderful cranes. I can almost hear them calling.
The sky seems a little dark; I wonder if brightening those lovely orange clouds would perk this up a bit?
This is a beautiful silhouette with a classic flock of cranes and a wonderful sunset sky Bob. I love the sharp outline of the cranes in flight. Nicely done.
Very well done! It’s not easy to get an isolated group with clean frame edges and you found a good arrangement of them. The dark sky feels authentic – my limited experience with them in NE was that they came in when it was almost too dark to get good exposures.
Thank you @SandyR-B , @Ed_Williams and @Diane_Miller for taking the time to review and comment. I went back to my files and concluded that the photo was taken some minutes before sunset and the clouds were indeed brighter in the original capture. I have reposted a corrected file above.
