Ring-necked Pheasant

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Saw several pheasants at Malheur NWR; can’t recall seeing them there on previous visits. I feel the setting/environment these birds are in is important, so I want to keep a reasonable amount of environment in these images and not do a heavy crop.

Specific Feedback

Any thoughts appreciated.

Technical Details

This crop works just fine for my taste, Allen. The last time I was there was spring of '21 (cut way too short with back issues) and there were several along the south end of the center patrol road at that time. Detail and color in the pheasant look fine.

Hi Allen, great look at this pheasant and I can appreciate a fairly loose crop to see where he lives. Colors and detail look good to me. Looks like there were a lot of flies flitting around there that I can see in the large image size - another point of interest to me.

Thanks, @Dennis_Plank and @Allen_Sparks for you comments. I think, Allen, those are probably mosquitos. The air around the water was thick with them.

Nice color on this pheasant and I like that you were able to get the entire tail in the frame. BG looks fine and the comp is suitable for the pheasant. Well done…Jim
