Critique Style Requested: Standard
The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
I often like the looks of rocks in a wash. In this scene, some kind of vegetative matter had fallen onto the rocks, adding a bit of color.

I generally like these types of images but I think this one is too busy. I thought a simplification would help and it does but the white patches remain too distracting. They’re dominating and not allowing the pine needles to have their say.
Thanks, Igor. I see what you mean. I’ll see if I can rework it.
I too love these kinds of images and I like this one in concept but I think @Igor_Doncov raises a good point. It’s pretty busy and the white rock makes seeing the pine needles more of a challenge. While I prefer Igor’s crop, that rock in the ULC corner is a bit heavy for me. I think you might have something here and I’m looking for crops that might work but It’ll have to wait until I get home on my computer to really see if they work or not. It certainly has potential and as is it’s pretty good but I think more could be had from it. Fun image for sure.
I can see what the others are saying about the whites kinda dominating, but there’s still a lot to like about the image. The needles hold a lot of visual interest contrasted with their gentle curves against the harsher lifeless rock textures. I didn’t see @Igor_Doncov’s crop untill I tried my own. Don’t know whether it’s any better or worse. It gets rid of most of the lower left quadrant where the needles are not widely dispersed.
Both the crops take it in a more abstract direction, which may be a good idea. I thought the large rock in the upper left would anchor the image and provide a hint as to scale..
