Sable Antelope

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

We’ve been to Africa several times, but have only seen sable once. I think they are the most beautiful (and elusive) antelope. I don’t often do portraits, but this female deserves one, imo.

Specific Feedback

Do the grasses detract? Easily cloned out, but I thought they added some interest

This is a beautiful antelope Sandy. Great focus on the eyes and face. You handled the shadows really well. I know the LLC helps accentuate the antelope, but it really draws my attention. I wonder if you selectively blurred the BG a bit more and burned the grassy area a bit if that would help. Good to have you posting your amazing images again.

Sandy, you’ve beautifully captured the elusive beauty of the sable antelope here. What stands out immediately is the captivating gaze of this female sable, which draws you into the photograph and holds your attention.

Framing the sable against the lush green backdrop not only provides a nice contrast but also emphasizes her striking features, particularly those impressive horns and the distinctive markings on her face. The focus is sharp, ensuring that every detail of her fur and horns is clear, while the blurred background adds depth without distraction.

Sable antelopes are indeed rare to spot, and you’ve managed to convey her elegance and the wild essence she embodies. There’s a silent story in her eyes, a connection to the wilderness that makes this portrait more than just a photograph—it feels like a moment of genuine connection with nature. Great capture.
