Sand and Water Magic

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Walking the beach a few days ago the reflections in the wet rippled sand appealed to me. It took a bit of processing magic to bring out the colors, but it worked for my taste.

Specific Feedback

I like the darker patches at the bottom to anchor the image (they were originally the top) and the way the foam lines spread toward the top. I’m interested in whether that works for others. As always, any suggestions for different processing are welcome.

Technical Details

Sony A7Riv, 28-70 f/2.8 Contemporary @ 70 mm, f/22, 1/200, iso 800. Processed in LR & PS CC. Rotated 180 degrees, saturation and vibrance increased a lot, some microcontrast adjustments using an old Topaz plugin to help bring out the ripple texture, and some dust bunnies and larger foam blobs that didn’t fit removed.

This is really effective, Dennis. The clouds(?) that are now at the bottom look like land and the ripples radiating upward give it a mystical feel. Lovely colors, too.

Hi Dennis, what a mysterious shot you made! Beautifull colors and structures. You made a differened sky, a sky like a fairytale. I like it very much. Well done, give us more of those.

Thank you for the kind words, Henny. I’m glad you enjoyed it.

Agree with Bonnie and Henny on this being an effective and intriguing image Dennis! Love the radiating lines in the image. Beautiful clouds. You could try brightening the top portion of the image. As it is, I could tell the image was flipped.
