Oh too funny. I took some bird photos out the car window today, too! Not of cranes although I have before. I like the overall vibe here with the sort of stalking pose. The light is quite nice being just direct enough for some texture. Might see about cloning the straight bit of grass at the 1/3 mark on the left. Was this a crop for you or was it close? They can be kind of dopey sometimes.

David, I am heading to that same refuge tomorrow morning. Hoping for some Crane shots. This one is absolutely terrific. I love the pose, the head turn, and the way the grasses seem to frame the bird so nicely. Excellent catch.

Wonderful environmental shot!! I love the natural setting and lookback pose.

The refuges we have within a 3 hour drive appear to be a disaster this year, with few birds and poor water near the roads. The drought has really affected water management. Rainfall so far is less than half normal and vital mountain snowpack is dismal – enough to cause traffic problems a couple of times but not enough to give vital spring/summer runoff.
