Sandhill Cranes at Sunset

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This image sat languishing in my files for several years. I always liked the incredible foggy sunset atmosphere, but just the two cranes in the foreground and some distant out of focus flocks lacked something. Then this “Blended” weekly challenge came up. I used another image taken during that sunset and added a mid layer of cranes. Viola! Now I think the image is more complete , has more depth and tells the story better.

This needs to be seen large to be appreciated! The nature of the soft focus on the BG is fascinating – reminiscent of pictorialism. Did that come from (or was enhanced by) the blended layer? Whatever, the addition of the other birds feels just right, and the mist and light are wonderful!!
