Image Description

Crocodile basking in the sun, taken from a bridge crossing over the river. I loved the shadow of the teeth in the open jaws of the crocodile and all the claw prints and tail marks in the sand, which made it visually interesting to me. Puente Rio Grande de Tarcoles, Costa Rica

I’d like to know what you think about the right spot on the left side, is it too bright or does it look natural? Any other comments/suggestions would be helpful. Thank you!

Hi Scott,
The textures in this are amazing. It’s almost like we are seeing a fossil as the sand looks almost like rock and croc is a similar tone.

The bright spot on the left does pull my eye, and in fact, it pulled it enough that I didn’t notice the shadow of the teeth until I read your description. It might be worth brightening the background, burning that bright spot if you want to draw more attention to the shadow and if you want the sand to look more like sand. In other words, separate the tones a bit more.

That said, I found it cool in its present form.

The shadow and all the patterns in the sand are what make this image for me, Scott.

Thank you for your thoughts, I reposted with that area toned down a bit, it definitely helps.

The top down view is great as it shows the patterns on the crocodile and in the sand. I would suggest that you tone down the highlights so we can see this details more clearly. A great shot.

Love the repost.

If you put the repost above the original, I think it appears in the thumbnail view on the website.

Thanks Marylynne, I switched them. I’m still learning the new site, I was last here when it was the original format, it’s very fancy now. :star_struck:

Indeed it is. Welcome back,

Sorry, didn’t see the re-edited version which is much better🙌

@Scott_Fricke This is a truly wonderful shot. The highlight area didn’t bother me much but it does seem to work better now that you have toned it down. I always liked the term “chiaroscuro” and this is a great example of it. Love it!
