Description

Hiking locally in the desert the living and dead or dying saguaros grab my attention. I will one morning try this subject during colorful sunrise light but thought I try it in B&W.

Nice and Sharp. Great lines and Tone Works great in B&W …

Steve: Great subject and a fine comp and conversion. The only thing that would improve this for me would be to make the contrail exiting the ULC go away. The rest of the cloud structures seem very natural and I think making the contrail disappear would be relatively easy since the surrounding sky is pretty uniform. Well seen and presented. >=))>

I am a fan of B%W photographs and this is a nice one. The only thing I would look at would be to see how it would look with a little contrast added. Really cool as is, though.

I think B&W is an appropriate format for the dead and dying saguaros, Steve, though a silhouette against a gaudy sunrise/sunset would probably also work very well. I’d bet there are also a ton of close-up texture dominated compositions in this old beauty. Very well done.

Steve, I think this looks great as presented. The structures in the contrails are an excellent contrast to the stark vertical/horizontal lines of the cactus skeleton, which looks like it might just stroll away some dark night.

Gil, Bill, Dave, Dennis and Mark thanks for your time and critiques of my image. I haven’t tried many B&W conversions but this one seemed like a good one for me to try. Dennis, for sure I’m going to hike back there on a fiery sunrise but in AZ we are begging for some clouds and the monsoon season to start. Mark glad you mention a cactus stroll. I’ve hike many years among the saguaros and have come to name a few since they feel like landmarks or characters along the trails.
