Smoke Phase Gobbler

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Here’s an unusual looking turkey in our backyard. They’re called “smoke phase” turkeys. This one’s beige and earth tones. I’ve seen another one that was black and white (about 50/50). Kinda rare, I think.

Specific Feedback

Does this work, even though it’s kind’ve a “butt shot”?

Technical Details

D500, Nikon 200-500 lens, monopod, 1/1000th, f 8.0, 615mm, ISO 6400, cropped to 3789 x 2896.

A nice look at this unusual color phase, Dave. As to “working”, I’d certainly prefer a more classic pose, but for displaying the plumage, this works nicely.

Hi Dave, really interesting to see this color of a turkey. I’m not familiar with it. A butt shot yes but at least we still see the eye well.

I like the portrayal of the plumage in this shot. The shade brings out those subtle colors quite nicely. Wish for more of a head turn, but you handled the DOF very well. Nicely done…Jim
