Some more of the Black Skimmer

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I’ve had a bad case of the cough and crud for three weeks now. I have not been out in the field since our Florida trip so I thought I’d share some more of the Black Skimmer that I recently processed while I’ve been stuck at home.

Specific Feedback

In the first image, I wanted to include some of the reeds that were present in the pond to give an idea of the habitat the bird was working. I chose the second and third image as the bird was coming more at an angle towards me.

Technical Details

Canon R7, 200-800mm, hand held
ISO 1600, f9, 1/4000s

Processed in DXO PureRaw 4 and Photoshop.

These are enviable shots, Allen, with excellent detail, especially for a flying bird. I like the reeds as well; a nice addition to an already fine image. I like the sense of closeness in the third one. Get better soon!

Hi Allen
Nice grouping of photographs, number 3 is my favorite.

Allen, I like them in order (all are excellent). The first post shows the bird and it’s habitat well. #2 and #3 are much more “action portraits”, with the big V of the wings and the wake of the lower beak looking very good. The lighting in all three looks has the warmth of early/late light that adds well to the views. Sadly, it’s been a good year for “crud”, in our house also, but that shure beats Covid!

I do like the hint of habitat in the first, Allen. The other two are quite similar, but the third has a little bit of extra punch that I like a lot.

For me, each one gets better! But the third feels like it should be leveled on the ripples. Its reflection is especially gorgeous!

I’m outa here before I catch it! Hope you get well fast!
