Somewhere between Yuma and Gila Bend + repost

From a small plane. This as an area of rugged dry terrain in SW Arizona, and I was struck by how lovely it looked this day with winter fog. This is the only time I’ve seen these wisps of air currents and I thought they were stunning against the rugged peaks. We were moving fast enough I had little time for playing with composition – I shot one a few seconds before this and another a few seconds after, but this was the most pleasing. We were IFR (instrument flight rules) and although we were in the clear here, there was no possibility to maneuver for different views.

Wow! This is beautiful, Diane! I love the look of the mountains above the clouds/fog. And the ‘air currents’ are amazing giving the image such an artistic flow, like a painting! Great capture!

Wow from me too. I really liked your last post, and this one is outstanding as well. Fascinating conditions, especially for the Sonoran Desert.

This is very nice.
Love the mood and composition.

Beautiful, Diane. The combination of the lower clouds and wisps is great. An excellent and unique capture.

This is excellent Diane. I just love the way the plumes of clouds are flowing over the mountains, it gives the image a lot of energy and vitality. I’ve only photographed from a small plane a couple times, it is a lot harder to do well than most would think. But you have have succeeded admirably here.

Great scene had me floating in space. Excellent work. One thing I would do, though, is to burn in the clouds quite a bit, to cut the glare. I found when I did that, my eyes naturally settled on just the mountains and stayed there without squinting.

Nice rhythm here Diane, and great conditions with the clouds.

Thanks guys! @Rick_Alway, they have been held well short of white as it is, and in real life the tops of fog like that is blindingly white if the sun is out.

Here is a B/W version where the mountains have more contrast, but the fog is even brighter.

I like this a lot. The diagonal line formed by the receding mountains along with the repeated triangles really help to anchor the composition and make an interesting contrast with the wispy cloud textures. I would actually recommend going with a black and white conversion of this image since it is already mostly monochromatic.

Wonderful scene and composition Diane. For me, I like the original best.

Love this image, Diane! Never would have guessed for this to be in my home State. Hence, I played with it a bit. Basically, cooled the image a bit, darkened the sky, brightened the mountain range and enhanced the fog, to give it a bit of a dreamlike feel. Really love the way you saw the scene!

Thanks, @J_Fritz_Rumpf – this is an improvement! It was a lucky sight!
