Spotted Dove in the Shadows

I took this image in the evening. The tree the bird was on was in a bright shadow. The background was a grass lawn that was in full sunlight. The top pic is the one I edited, the bottom is the cropped original.

Hi David,
A beautiful dove - I’ve never seen one before. A nice view of that unique neck. I prefer the background in the original (bottom photo) - I don’t think you need to white it out as in the edited version. Explaining what steps you did in post processing would help with a critique - I’m thinking maybe just starting with upping the shadows (shadows/highlights tool) would be a good start in adding brightness to the bird while leaving the green background largely intact. I also notice some noise in the bird which must of came when you increased brightness there.

An attractive dove. Nice pose. I prefer the green background. I could see lessening the shadows on the dove and maybe cloning out the background tree.
